Eddie Hazel was born in New York City on April 10, 1950, and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey. At age 17, Hazel joined a doo-wop group called The Parliaments. Soon after Hazel's entry, the group changed their name to Funkadelic and began playing a soul-infused version of hard rock unlike anything the world had ever seen before.
Hazel's unique style of guitar-playing has inspired a sense of wonder in me. The level of raw emotion and energy he put into his songs is incredible, and the innovative techniques and effects he used in his music are awe-inspiring. Because of his versatile musical talent, Hazel and Funkadelic were able to create a completely new and innovative style of music that has inspired me.
